In Brenner Merry Go Round the artist describes the Italian-Austrian border in a way that is both performative and paradoxical. In the course of the 20th century the Brenner Pass has been marked by ideological, social and historical changes and, with its controls and expulsions, is again today a political threshold. In the filmed action you see the artist driving round and round in the roundabout at the Austrian and Italian border, staying in this endless tension.
From the car you hear the two musical scores, the Austrian Radetzky March and the Italian National anthem. These two scores were played at the ceremony when the two countries signed the Schengen agreement in 1995. Here simply merged into one.
